New Delhi, June 21: India has on Friday said issued a travel advisory for citizens paying a visit to Ethiopia, urging them to be “vigilant and observe necessary precautions” to remain safe, in a view of the recent attacks over foreign nationals and expatriates living in the African nation’s capital Addis Ababa.

According to ANI news reports, the advisory was issued by India’s ministry of external affairs (MEA), which urged its citizens to avoid travelling to Ethiopia or exposing or carrying valuable things in public or walking in dark streets alone.

In an official statement, the MEA said, “In view of the recent incident of attacks on expatriates and foreigners in Addis Ababa and other parts of the country, Indians residing in as well as visiting Ethiopia are advised to be vigilant and observe necessary precautions for their safety and well being.”

The MEA statement added the Indian travellers or visitors needs to avoid carrying or exposing any valuables to public, as well as, walking in dark streets alone.

It further added the Indian embassy in Addis Ababa can be reached 24/7 on the following number: 00251 911506852.

According to local media, it has suggested there has been a spark in the recent attacks over international nationals residing or living in Ethiopia in some recent times.
