Biarritz, August 26: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has on Monday ruled out third party interference on the Kashmir spat, saying its a bilateral matter with Pakistan and that both neighbours could resolve the issues.

Modi made these remarks during his bilateral meeting with United States President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in a French city of Biarritz on Sunday, according to ANI.

Trump also appeared to be agreeing with Modi when he stated the two nations “will do something good”.

Ahead of his bilateral talks with Trump on the margins of the G7 summit, Modi said, “All issues between India and Pakistan are bilateral. We do not want to bother any other country for these issues. And I believe that India and Pakistan, which were one nation before 1947, we will resolve all issues and can find solutions to it.”

Modi said India and Pakistan required to stand together and fight many issues such as poverty, illiteracy, diseases and work together for the welfare of the two nations, adding, “We keep talking about the various bilateral issues between each other,” referring to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Trump said, “The Prime Minister feels he has control over the issue. The speak with Pakistan and I am sure they will do something very good,” who recently thrice offered to mediate on Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India.

However, India rejected claims Trump had discussed mediation offer with Modi and further made it clear Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter.

Trump congratulated Modi over his 2019 Lok Sabha election victory, saying, “The Prime Minister is a man who is loved and respected in his country.”

Meanwhile, Modi while expressing his gratitude to the US President, said, “Today, I am meeting my friend and the President of world’s oldest democracy. This meeting is very important to me. We have been meeting very frequently on many occasions.”

Addressing the ongoing trade negotiations issue between the two nations, the Indian prime minister said, “India and the US have been continuously negotiating over the issue in recent days and we appreciate and welcome their suggestions on the issue.”
