Romanian prime minister has said on Sunday that the nation’s embassy in Israel will be shifted from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.

According to Sputnik news reports, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has noted that the United States and Israel were “special strategic partners of Romania”.

Dancila was quoted by her press service as saying, “I am pleased to announce today to the audience of the AIPAC [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] that, after completing the analysis by all constitutional actors involved in the decision-making process in my country, and with full agreement, I, as the prime minister of Romania, and the government I lead, will move the Romanian embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.”

Also, the US state department has said on March 4 this year that the American consulate in Jerusalem, which serves  Palestinians, will get merged into a new US embassy to Israel, the plan which has angered Palestinian leadership.

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo had last October announced the decision of creating a single diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, had been widely expected early March.

However, Palestinian leaders have suspended diplomatic talks with the US administration after the embassy move and since have boycotted the US efforts to establish an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, accusing the US of pro-Israel bias.
