A Tokyo court has on Thursday approved Nissan’s ex-chief Carlos Ghosn’s release bail at $4.5 million for the second time since he was detained last year over financial misconduct charges.

According to Al-Jazeera news reports, in an official statement, the district court of Tokyo said it had approved Ghosn’s bail at a request filed by his lawyers following Ghosn’s indictment over breach of trust.

Prosecutors are likely to make an appeal to the court, though, Ghosn’s bail approval marks the second time when he has been freed from prison on bail request.

Last month, in a video message, while denying all accusations levelled against him by prosecutors in the court, Ghosn has stated: “This is a conspiracy … this is not about greed or dictatorship, this is about a plot, this about a conspiracy, this is about a backstabbing.”

Nissan had earlier April stated it had filed a criminal lawsuit against its ex-boss” after determining that payments made by Nissan to an overseas vehicle sales company via a subsidiary were in fact directed by Ghosn for his personal enrichment and were not necessary from a business standpoint”.

After posting release bail, Ghosn will be allowed to leave Tokyo’s detention centre, but however, his conversations and movement will be strictly monitored in accordance with his earlier bail conditions.
