The United States President Donald Trump will unveil a revamped US missile defence system strategy on Thursday that looks forward to boosting the American security, including possibly by deploying a new layer of the space-based sensors in order to detect and attack enemy missiles.

Ahead of the document’s release on Thursday, while speaking on a condition of anonymity, a senior Trump administration official told reporters, “Space, I think, is the key to the next step of missile defense.”

The official further said: “A space-based layer of sensors is something we are looking at to help get early warning and tracking and discrimination of missiles when they are launched.”

According to news reported by Reuters, Trump’ announcement came after previously the US announced its plans to increase the number of the ground-based interceptors over several next years, increasing the number of position at Fort Greely, Alaska to 64 from 44.

The US military officials have long-stressed that American missile defences were primarily designed in order to counter attacks from any countries with more limited arsenals such as North Korea, which the US intelligence officials believed that it is still advancing nuclear program despite a ban over missile launches last year.

However still, Russia views U.S. missile defense advances as a threat and Trump’s report is likely to stoke tensions with Moscow.
