In Houston, lawmakers are getting ready to attend an event of the Indian diaspora which is held to welcome the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event is called ‘Howdy Modi!’ and around 60 lawmakers of the US including American-Hindu Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Modi is expected to address the Houston Diaspora on the 22nd of September during his visit to the United States which is due this month. It will be the first time since his re-election that the Indian premier Narendra Modi would visit the United States.

According to a report in The Times of India, this is going to be Modi’s third-largest address to the Indian Diaspora after becoming the Prime minister in 2014 and the first since he won his re-election.

According to Jiten Agrawal, CEO of Expedien, an IT firm in the United States said, “India is going to be a $5 trillion economy in the next few years and needs significant collaboration in healthcare and Texas medical center being one of the best in country ushers in another partnership between India and Texas in medical research and treatments.”

The event is going to be held at the NRG Stadium which would see at least 50,000 audiences to see the Prime Minister. The outreach program by the prime minister to engage the diaspora is considered as a major approach to increase India’s zone of influence.

The Prime Minister is set to visit the United States from Septemeber 21st-September 27th as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs. After the event, the Prime Minister is expected to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York
