The Supreme Court of Venezuela on Tuesday blocked all bank accounts of the self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, as well as his financial transactions within the jurisdiction of the country.

According to Sputnik news reports, Venezuelan authorities have declared a preliminary probe into the activities of the Venezuelan opposition head Juan Guaido, Reuters has reported on Tuesday while citing a statement by Venezuela’s court’s president. In particular, the court has ruled out to impose a travel ban on Guaido until the full completion of the investigation into his activities.

In a tweet, the Venezuelan Supreme Court chief Maikel Mareno wrote: “The Supreme Court in its decision from January 29 ruled to take the following precautionary measures against Juan Gerardo Guaido Marquez: prohibition of leaving the country without an authorization until the investigation is completed; prohibition of alienation and pledge of property; blocking of bank accounts and/or any other financial instrument on the Venezuelan territory.”

Court’s move comes after Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek Saab asked the court, Supreme Tribunal of Justice, to introduce such preventive measures against the opposition head.

The United States national security advisor John Bolton has on Tuesday, criticized prosecutors for threatening Guaido and warned of “serious consequences for those who attempt to subvert democracy and harm Gaudio”.
