Following the third beta that went out in May during its I/O developer conference, Google has finally released Android Q Beta 4 today that is pretty close to the final version of the software. If you’re already enrolled and received the Android Q Beta 3 on your Pixel device, you’ll automatically get the update to Beta 4 update.

The Android Q Beta 4 comes with several new features along with it. This update comes packed with the latest Android Q system images for Pixel and Android Emulator. The Beta 4 comes along with the final Android Q developer APIs, the official API 29 SDK, and updated build tools for Android Studio. The Android Q Beta 4 is available for all the supported devices like Pixel 3, among others.

Back gesture

Here’s what new Android Q Beta 4 update offers:

  1. The contextual rotation button will now work when you enable the new gesture navigation, so when you lock to portrait mode but rotate the phone to landscape it will show up and if you tap it you can quickly turn the display.
  2. The thin bar at the bottom that is present when you enable the new gesture navigation system is no longer present.
  3. The back arrows for the new navigation system are colored white or dark depending on the background, and their animations have improved.
  4. The back gesture is disabled when you move through the multitasking screen.
  5. Notifications can be “Prioritized” or “Gentle” now, whereas in Beta 3 you picked between “Interruptive” and “Gentle”.
  6. The Notification Assistant has turned into “Adaptive Notifications”, it still prioritizes automatically.
  7. You can once again dismiss notifications by swiping in either direction.
  8. You can hide “Gentle” notification icons from showing up in the status bar.
  9. New accent colors for the UI themes added: Space, Cinnamon, Ocean, and Orchid
  10. The lock screen lock icon moves to the top.
  11. Notification icons in dark mode aren’t all white anymore.

However, there have been reports of failed installs and Pixels being stuck while rebooting or just booting into recovery mode with a failed update error.
