MINI has teased its upcoming electric hatchback on their social media handle and according to us, it is the Cooper SE that will be arriving in India really soon. First revealed in 2019, it is already available for the global market. What’s new?

Starting from the outside, the electric version of the MINI looks exactly similar to its ICE counterpart. However, just to differentiate, the carmaker has decided to offer a new front grille with chrome border, ‘SE’ badging and a new set of alloy wheels. Other features such as LED headlamps and taillamps have been retained to offer a similar design language.

The dimensions will remain exactly the same with the length rated at 3845mm, width at 1928mm and height at1432mm. Talking about the boot space, it is adequate at 211 litres.

Inside the cabin, the layout of the dashboard as well as the seating arrangement remains exactly the same. Also, features such as a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, etc are also there as a part of the standard equipment list.

For an idea, MINI retails the Cooper SE at £26,000 in the UK.

Powerplant

Using a 32.6kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor, the upcoming hatchback is expected to produce a decent output of somewhere around 181BHP and 270Nm. According to the brand, because of such power figures, it can clock a triple-digit speed in just 7.3 seconds. The top speed of the same is rated at 150kmph with power channelled to front wheels only.

Alternatives

Call it expensive but the all-new Jaguar I-Pace is undoubtedly a value for money deal. Available with a 90kWh battery pack and twin electric motors, it can easily produce a massive 395BHP and 696Nm of peak torque without harming nature. According to the brand, it can do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.8 seconds while using the Dynamic mode.

The new I-Pace comes loaded with several features including automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster and electrically adjustable front seats among others.
