People’s preference from rawness is shifting towards convenience and that’s clear. The modern car buyer will any day be inclined towards peaceful drives keeping in mind the city traffic and the need to upshift and down shift more frequently. Recently, Maruti Suzuki has quoted some numbers to this increase in demand for automatic cars and SUVs they have sold as the carmaker recently managed to cross 10 Lakh mark for the automatic variants.

  • The lineup currently consists of 4 reliable automatic gearboxes.
  • Almost 1 Lakh units have been sold till now in FY 2023-2024.

Maruti Suzuki Posts Strong Sales Numbers For Automatic Variants

The two pedal technology was initially introduced in the form of – Auto Gear Shift (AGS) but now there are total four reliable automatic gearboxes including the former, 4-speed automatic transmission, 6-speed automatic transmission (with paddle shifters) and an Electronic-Continous Variable Transmission (e-CVT) across 16 models available.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited also confirms that around 65% of the automatic vehicles sold are equipped with AGS. Meawhile, the AT and e-CVT gearboxes stands at 27% and 8% respectively.

The regions that contributes maximum to Maruti Suzuki’s automatic car sales are Delhi-NCR region, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerela. The cars that features AGS are Alto K-10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Fronx. Similarly, Jimny and Ciaz are currently available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. For now, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara are sold with 6-speed AT with paddle shifters as well. However, e-CVT is limited on premium models that features Hybrid Technology. These include two models – Grand Vitara and Invicto.

And we are truly humbled by the customer response we have received. MSIL’s automatic car sales have been on the rise constantly. We are already close to touching the one lakh automatic vehicle sales mark for FY23- 24, as we stand in the middle of the financial year. This is truly a tremendous feat for us.”
