Volkswagen Taigun
Exterior & Design
Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, the new Taigun does feel similar to Skoda Kushaq from certain angles. Now, just to differentiate, they have decided to introduce a new pair of headlights, VW signature grille and reprofiled bumper for the front end. Similarly, for the side and rear profile, it gets a new set of alloy wheels, LED taillamps and a revised tailgate giving it a separate identity.
Multiple colour shades will also make their debut with the all-new Taigun. The list begins with:
- Carbon Steel Grey
- Wild Cherry Red
- Candy White and
- Curcuma Yellow
Interior & Safety
Inside the cabin, several new panels have been introduced to upgrade the user experience. To begin with, the dashboard of the Taigun sports a new multi-functional steering wheel, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and new AC vents. Other features including a USB Type-C port, wireless charger, fully digital instrument cluster and auto-dimming IRVM further enhances the overall practicality depending upon the variant opted by the customers.
Expect world-class safety from the upcoming VW Taigun. According to the spec-sheet, it will get up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, multi-collision brakes, three-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat mount, etc just to name a few.
Engine & Transmission
Just like Skoda Kushaq that uses VW Group’s potent engines, the all-new Kushaq will also be featuring a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit. As claimed by the brand, the overall output from this motor is rated at 114BHP and 178Nm. Want a powerful alternative? Go for the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a massive 147BHP and 250Nm of peak torque.
For now, both of them are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, for added practicality, the first one comes with a 6-speed AT gearbox. The latter one will obviously feature a 7-speed DSG transmission for more convenience. To sum up, there’s no diesel engine on offer.
Alternatives
After the launch, expect it to lock horns with some well-known contenders such as Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos and MG Hector among others. Planning to buy a compact SUV? Check out the new Seltos down below.
Kia Seltos
This year Kia Motor India introduced the new Seltos with a price tag starting at just Rs.9.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Unlike the upcoming VW Taigun, it is also available with a diesel engine and that’s what makes it even practical in terms of powertrain. Feature-wise, Kia Seltos comes with a heads-up display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech and electric sunroof among others.
