CBSE has planned to organise a training programme for school principals and teachers on the ‘Alternative Academic Calendar’. The orientation will begin on July 17 and the programme will be live-streamed. Considering the present scenario, CBSE has rationalised the syllabus of class 9 to 12 by up to 30% as a one time measure. Some topics have been removed from nearly 190 subjects. Though these topics will have to be discussed in the class in a way, it helps students to understand related chapters. But questions from these chapters will not be asked in exams.

CBSE said, “The objective is to reduce the examination stress of students due to the prevailing health emergency situation and prevent learning gaps”.

NCERT in one of its curriculum documents said, “Given the unprecedented social distancing and home quarantines due to COVID-19, social media platforms have immense potential to contribute to teaching-learning processes. When physical access to schools and colleges are closed, we can leverage these platforms to effectively carry out academic activities in innovative ways”.

CBSE Chairman Manoj Ahuja and NCERT Director Dr Hrushikesh Senapaty will address and interact with the principals participating in the programme to discuss how to overcome the present challenges in teaching posed by the Pandemic.
