On thursday, The Delhi High Court ordered the Administration of JNU to setup COVID care centres in the campus and to assure the immediate isolation of the residents who have been tested positive. A sudden rise in the number of active cases from inside the university premises has led the court to this decision.

Justice Pratibha M Singh signed the order which stated that a suitable location must be identified in the campus and the procedure for setting up the centre should be done by a Covid task force with the consultation of concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).

The order further added that the Covid positive patients must be isolated immediately as soon as the centres are ready to function. The Covid task force and respective SDM will be completely responsible to monitor the basic parameters of patients and availability of Doctors, Nursing/paramedic staff, equipments, oxygen and medicinal supplies.

The Care centres must also be equipped with oxygenated beds and ICU facilities as the cases of serious patients are more concerned and they require continuous oxygen support. If required, The Task Force is permitted to tie up with a hospital in the surrounding area for emergency support.

The decision came in after a petition was filled by the students union (JNUSU) and the teachers association (JNUTA) of JNU. The petition filled in second week of april mentioned the consequences due to outbreak of corona virus inside the university campus which has resulted in the sudden rise of covid patients.

The petitioners were continuously demanding the JNU administration and the SDM of respective area to immediately take appropriate measure in order to restrict the further spread of infection. The Court will further bench a hearing session on May 28 to review the situations and functioning of the COVID care facilities.
