According to an official website of Jamia Millia Islamia University, the university is conducting interviews across the department. The advertisement further states that the teachers will be assigned for contractual bases. According to the reports from TOI, the candidates appearing for the interview were informed that the selected candidates would assign as a guest lecturer and not based on contract. This left the candidates in shock as they were not informed by the administrator about the change by the university. This felt them puzzled and shocked as no information was communicated to them.

A candidate who appeared for an interview revealed that on getting to the interview venue, the administration informed that while the advertisements were for contractual positions the hires will actually be places as guest lecturers. “Shockingly when we started appearing for the interviews, we were told that all the contractual positions might be converted into guest without even issuing any corrigendum against the advertisement,” said the candidate on condition.

This move by the university can be seen as the March 5 UGC directive on rostering register and subsequent Allahabad High Court. After the court order all the universities to canceled permanent faculty appointments, in light of which Jamia Millia too “converted” contractual vacancies to guest vacancies.

However, the UGC order mentions that minority colleges are exempted from the directive. “We still need clarity on what must be done in the matter before progressing,” said a university official. “But we informed the candidates during their attendance that the position is for guest and contractual faculty. After we have some clarity on the matter, the candidates might be taken in as guest or contract this has been duly informed to them before they sit for the interview,” the official explained.
