Muslim Education society bans jeans, min-skirts and leggings in its 150 institutes.

On Thursday, MES (Muslim Education Society) has asked all 150 institutes run under its purview to ban naqabs/veils that cover whole face of the females. The order was issued by MES President PA Fazal Gafoor in the circular released by him on April 17 this year.

Today, Mr. Gafoor has added in the circular that the institutes (under MES) are ordered to ban clothing ‘unacceptable to mainstream society.’

As asked by Scroll.in to Fazal Gafoor, what are those ‘unacceptable dresses’ on, which he replies “They should avoid wearing leggings, jeans and mini-skirts.”

According to him, “Mainstream society doesn’t approve of the wearing of these garments.” He added further, “Our internal circular aims to encourage the students to maintain decorum in dressing and adhere to our cultural ethos. Let me explain simply what I mean by descent dresses,it is what you and I would prefer our mothers and sisters to wear.”

On being asked whether he has released any order on male dressing, he replied “It is binding on all our more than 85,000 students both men and women. Men should wear socially acceptable clothing.”

Though after issuing the order, President Fazal Gaffor has got huge discrimination from the religious communities, boycotting the order. According to the reports he has also received a threat call after the circular came into view on May 2. Mr. Gafoor has filed a complaint with the police against the matter.
