Rent agreement may be mandatory for RTE admissions in Gujarat

After Chandigarh Parents’ Association (CPA) filed a case against six private schools on asking Rent Agreement from parents of EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) students. Instead of taking notes, Gujarat state education is planning of mandating the registration of Rent and Lease agreement of Parents’ house under the Right to Education(RTE), Act 2009 from the next academic session.

The decision was taken by the Gujarat State amidst parents submitting fake agreements to the private schools for the admission of their kids under the 25% reservation rule for EWS (Economically Weak Section).

Under the Right to Education Act 2009, it is every child’s fundamental right to get an education. The bill provides a 25% reservation to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) students in the private schools of the country.

As per the data, 1 lakh seats will be offered to the underprivileged students in the Gujarat state for which admission will open from next month.

“This move is to ensure the rent agreements are authentic and this will help in filtering the fake agreements. We just want to confirm that the seats are going to the EWS students,” said MI Joshi, Director Primary Education.
