The Municipal School Board of Vadodara has decided to establish four new English-medium schools in the city in order to enhance the enrollment rate of students in schools for the next academic year.

Out of the four, three of them have already started their mid-term session in August in 2018 to provide admissions to those students who were not able to get admission in the minority schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. These schools will establish proper admissions for the next academic session of 2019-20.

Looking at the declining enrollment rate of students in schools, it was decided by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation in order to enhance the enrollment rate, the new establishment of schools was in need. It has been decided that classes for the students pursuing English-medium studies will be conducted in the same building as of Gujrati and Hindi-medium classes.

Along with the establishment of four new schools, the number of English-medium schools running under VMC will reach to 5.

It was observed that from the past six years, the enrollment rate has declined by 24.25%. It was reported that the number of students enrolled in the schools has declined from 38,814 in 2012-13 to 29,398 in 2018-19. Also, the number of schools in the city also declined from 106 in 2016-17 to 102 in 2018-19.

“There are multiple reasons behind the dip in student enrollment in our schools. One of them is the preference of the parents to enroll their children in English medium schools. Keeping this in mind, we are working towards starting more English medium schools with facilities at par with the private schools. We had one English medium school from Class I to V which already has 359 students. The other three schools, which were started mid-way last year, will now commence fully,” said Administrative Officer of the Municipal School Board Dharmendrasinh Chudasama.
