On the professional front, Athiya will be seen in the comedy film ‘Motichoor Chaknachoor’ with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, directed by Debamitra Biswal.

She plays the role of Annie, a small town girl who wants to marry an NRI so that she can go abroad to settle.

The trailer of the film was put on stay after Debamitra had filed a petition against one of the films producers, Woodpecker Movies, due to non-payment issues. The Bombay High Court later lifted the stay after some negotiations.

Talking about the role and the Bundelkhandi accent, Athiya said: “I questioned if I would be able to pull the character off. I knew I would be able to do it with a lot of hard work and conviction. You have to be very authentic and real to the character.”

The film follows the life of a 36 year old man desperately trying to find a wife. It is slated to release on 15 November this year.
