National Award winner Vidya Balan might play Sanya Malhotra‘s mother in the biopic of the mathematician Shakuntala Devi. Vidya will be seen in the titular role while Sanya will play the daughter Anupama Banerjee in the film.
A source close to the development informed, “Sanya has liked the story and being a huge Vidya fan is keen to share the screen with her but she has yet to sign on the dotted line. The film will roll this year.”
Another source revealed, “Vidya found the story really inspiring when Anu approached her but is yet to sign the project. Anu has researched a lot for the film which is currently in the final stages of scripting, following which the team will start on an extensive prep. The film is likely to roll sometime next year.”
The actress has shown her interest in playing the role of Guinness record holder Shakuntala Devi who was a mathematician and nicknamed “human computer”. The film will be directed by Anu Menon and produced by Ronnie Screwala.
Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mathematician. She wrote several novels as well as texts about mathematics, puzzles, and astrology. She wrote a book, The World of Homosexuals, the first study of homosexuality in India.
She was last seen in NTR biopic as Basavatarakam, wife of the Telugu actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s (NTR). While Sanya last appeared in 2018’s hit film ‘Badhaai Ho‘ against Ayushmann Khurrana.
