The Goods and Services Tax Council 30th meet today might discuss the outcomes of implementing a tax on selected items to support flood-affect Kerala in recovery. The meeting will be headed by Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley through video conferencing.

Kerela which was hit by a disastrous flood this year has proposed to incorporate either all-India GST tax or at least a cess on SGST to help people recover from the losses.

In order to implement a new tax, the council may have to revise the GST Act. Presently, the act has added excise tax, service tax along with all other taxes as one.

Reportedly, the GST collection plummetted in August and hit its lowest at ₹96,483 crore in current fiscal.

In its last meeting, the council discussed various challenges faced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Along with it, the council pronounced to boost digital payments in poor sections of the society by offering them attractive cashbacks.
