In Jharkhand, the political environment gets charged up with a newly announced decision by JD (U), Janta Dal (United) party. The party announced on Sunday that in the upcoming assembly elections of Jharkhand assembly, the party would contest alone without any support from other parties.

Currently, JD (U) party headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is in alliance with NDA (National Democratic Alliance) in Bihar. Therefore the decision to go solo in the adjoining state election polls is a bit of contrary stand to the existing situation.

Assembly elections in Jharkhand are slated to take place at the end of the year. Therefore after a lot of discussions with Poll strategist Prashant Kishor, Jharkhand unit chief Salkhan Murmu announced the decision. The decision is said to be taken in the June meeting of party’s national executives.

Nitish Kumar has also asked his members to get the maximum number of seats in Jharkhand polls. As explained by Salkhan Murmu, The party has decided to give people an option apart from BJP led alliance in Jharkhand. Interestingly, The party has also decided to go solo in Delhi and Haryana.

Though Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has negated the apprehensions of media of something being wrong in the alliance of Bihar’s government. But, some leaders are saying that the decision may not fall in the good books of BJP as it may likely to increase the tension between NDA alliance in Bihar.

For spearheading the preparation at the ground level, Salkhan Murmuy and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take a visit to Ranchi by the end of August.

BJP is currently in power in Jharkhand state and is hoping to hold onto its seat. In 2014 assembly elections, BJP won 42 seats in alliance with All Jharkhand Students Union. Later in 2015, 6 members of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha also joined BJP, gaining the party a wider stronghold in the state.
