New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday flagged off India’s first-ever fully-automated driverless train service on the Magenta Line of the national capital Delhi Metro.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, with this latest development, Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation has made it into the seven percent of the world’s Metro networks which can operate services without drivers.

Addressing the public on the event through a web conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This shows how fast India is progressing towards a smart system. The Delhi metro is now connected through the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).”

He added, “A few years ago, there was not much focus on smart systems. There was a lackadaisical approach, so we saw a huge difference between urbanization and technological development. Our government changed that.”

PM Narendra Modi further said that modernization has taken up as an opportunity to fulfill the goal of ease of living.

These advancements will proclaim another period of voyaging solace and improved portability for the occupants of Delhi and different urban areas in the National Capital Region.

The business activity of these new-age trains, set to be a significant innovative accomplishment, will start later the very day, after the occasion, news office PTI cited a DMRC official as saying.

This was the main significant occasion of Delhi Metro in 2020 which saw an exceptional lockdown in the previous months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
