On Wednesday at a function in Raipur, incumbent Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel was sworn in as the Governor of Chhattisgarh, reported PTI.

After the demise of Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Dass Tandon on Tuesday, Patel was bestowed with the additional charge of Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi administered the oath ceremony of Patel in a function held at Raj Bhawan in Raipur. Chief Minister Raman Singh and other state officers graced the occasion with their presence.

Anandiben Patel served as the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat after Narendra Modi became the Prine Minister in 2014. She was succeeded by Vijay Rupani as Gujarat CM on 7 Aug 2016. Patel assumed the office as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh on January 2018.

Balramji Dass Tandon, one of the patriarch of Jan Sangh, BJP’s parent outfit, died at the age of 90 at Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital from a heart attack on 14 August 2018.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson told the media that President Ram Nath Kovind gave the additional charge of the Governor office of Chhattisgarh to Anandiben Patel, after the death of Tandon.

He had informed that Patel will discharge the duties of the Governor of Chhattisgarh until regular arrangements are made, reported PTI.
