More cases of bogus voting in Kannur reported with cases reported in Dharmadom and Pamburuthi constituencies in Kannur, Kerala.

More cases of bogus voting was confirmed in Kannur with Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena confirming of bogus voting in the districts of Pamburuthi and Dharmadom. Kannur’s district collector Mir Muhammed Ali submitted the report regarding this to the electoral officer. According to reports, Abdul Salam, Uniyas KP, and Marshad cast two bogus votes each and Muhammed Aslam, Abdul Salam, Sadik KP, Shamal, K Muhammed Anas, and Mubashir casted one bogus vote each.

CEO Teeka Ram Meena also recommended the registering of a complaint against Sayooj, who cast fake vote at booth number 52 of the Dharmadom constituency.

“Cases will be registered against them under Sections 171 C, D and F of the Indian Penal Code. Though election agents had raised objections had raised objections while the bogus votes were being cast, the presiding officer did not bother to stop them. So cases under section 134 of the representation of people’s act will be charged against him,” Meena said.

“The statements of all ten persons were recorded by the District Collector. Six of them admitted to the offence. they pleaded to be pardoned, but bogus voting is a serious offence,” said Meena.

However CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan maintained the view that there was not any bogus votes cast. He said, “You maybe mentioning about a person casting the valid vote of another one. The CPM has not directed anybody to cast others’ votes. If someone has indulged in impersonation, legal action should be taken against them.”
