The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in its 3-day meeting in New Delhi has decided that there will be no electoral alliance with the Congress in the five states going to Assembly polls in November and December.

However, the party has not yet decided anything for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections “as there is no unanimity on the issue” and the decision might be finalized only in January.

The CPM has decided that the party will form a seven-party alliance in Rajasthan as well as Madhya Pradesh. While in Telangana it is looking to form Bahujan Left Front.

The seven parties that are forming Rajasthan Democratic Front are CPM, CPI, Samajwadi Party, JD(S), CPI(ML), RLD and Marxist-Communist Party of India (MCPI). The party is expecting BSP to extend their hand and be a part of the front as it has already announced it will not ally with the Congress.

However, CPI is part of an alliance with the Congress in Telangana along with other parties such as TDP and the Telangana Jana Samiti.

In MP and Chhattisgarh, too, CPM is trying to form a non-congress alliance. Although the party was of the view to develop a “tacit tactical understanding with the Congress” to prevent vote division, the central committee refused to accept.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal unit of the party is willing to have an understanding with the Congress to defeat both Trinamool Congress and BJP in the state.
