Edappadi K Palaniswamy

Following the Supreme Court’s verdict which convicted Sasikala for a 4 years term in jail, AIADMK leaders have elected new leader of legislators. Highways minister in the current AIADMK government, Edappadi K Palaniswamy will now be the leader of legislators and the front-runner to be hold the chief minister’s office.

The politics in Tamilnadu has seen a lot of turnarounds in the last few weeks. Ever since the demise of Jayalalithaa, there is suspense, thrill and politics over the post of chief minister. O Panneerselvam was made CM of Tamilnadu, before he gave resignation citing personal reasons. However, just days after, he came in front of media to allege Sasikala for forcing him to resign and added that he could become CM again if AIADMK and public wanted him to.

Around the same time, Sasikala was elected as the leader of legislators, however, this was challenged by leaders inside and outside of AIADMK alleging her of not being an elected leader. The supreme court had also not given its verdict in the disproportionate assets case, which kept things in suspense.

However, now that there is a new leader, there are speculations that some of the MLAs might come towards Panneerselvam and if that happens, we are set to see another series of dramatic political events in Tamilnadu politics.
