In a press released by All India Congress Committee, the name of Arshad Ali Khan was officially announced. The release was issued under the warrant and seal of Mukul Wasnik who is the general secretary and in-charge of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress party.
13 seats of Uttar Pradesh state will go to by-polls in the coming days. The seats fell vacant because most of the legislators from these seats were elected to Lok Sabha. Rampur seat fell vacant as its leader Mohammad Azam Khan was elected to the Lower House. Azam Khan had represented the Rampur constituency for almost nine terms.
Arshad Ali Khan had previously left the Congres in 2012 and joined Samajwadi party. But he rejoined the grand old party in 2017 when his wife contested for the civic polls.
