Election Commission of India (ECI) announces holiday on May 19, on the last day of polling for the Lok Sabha general elections in Punjab in the view of parliamentary constituency election to facilitates the voters exercise the franchise to vote.

The Chief electoral Officer of Punjab S Karuna Raju said that, ” according to the Representation of People Act 1951 section 135 B and the instruction issued by Election Commission the employees of the commercial and industrial establishments shops can have paid holiday on the date of polling in Punjab on May 19.

He said that the employees entitled to take a paid leave on the polling day.

The Punjab government also issued directions to ensure the compliance of guidelines of the Election Commission concerning the ‘dry day’ period on the polling day of the parliamentary constituency.

The Chief electoral Officer S karuna Raju said that according to the guidelines of election commission the sale of liquid will be prohibited in Punjab 48 hours prior to the polling day and ending with the conclusion of polling at 6 p.m. on May 19.

The steps of caution aims to stop any clandestine movement of liquid from the adjoining areas of neighbouring States.

Directions by the Chief electoral Officer have been issued to the Financial commissioner, Administrative secretary, Additional chief secretary, Director General of the Police, Divisional Commissioner, Deputy commissioner, Heads of departments, and Sub Divisional Magistrate.

13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 19. The counting of the votes and results will be announced on May 23.
