Eyeing to make a comeback in the state polls of Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary for UP East Priyanka Gandhi will meet party workers in the state twice a week in the national capital. Gandhi will be meeting ground level workers in an open house meet and aimed to strengthen the Congress organizationally in Uttar Pradesh.

As planned by the party, UP East General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will meet ground level workers on every Tuesday and Thursday. An Ordinary worker can meet Gandhi without an appointment on these two days between 10 am to 1.

Gandhi as per party’s Mission UP will be visiting state regularly to connect with the grassroots-level workers. Sources claimed that two such meetings have already taken place.

Earlier this week on Thursday, Priyanka visited Rae Bareli along with her mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. This was her first visit to Raebareli after poll setback. During the visit, she came down heavily at the party workers for not working in favor of the party in the general elections.

Priyanka had campaigned intensively for the party in UP, especially in Raebareli and Amethi but the party lost all the seats in UP except Raebareli.

After a massive poll setback, Priyanka Gandhi is tasked with uphill work to strengthen the party in the state keeping in mind the upcoming by-polls and State Polls that are due for 2022.

Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said that Top brasses of the grand old party are currently focusing on strengthening the party after its poll setback in the recently held national polls.

Scindia talking to media in Lucknow said, ‘Keeping in mind the assembly polls in the state, we are currently focussing on strengthing the party, its workers and giving chances and opportunities to new candidates’.

Currently, both the general secretaries of the party – Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia – are holding a review meeting in the state to deliberate the reasons behind the poll disaster in the recently held national polls.

The Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

It had only managed to won a single seat – Sonia Gandhi‘s Rae Bareli – out of the 80 Lok Sabha Seats of the state. It had got 6.3% vote share from Uttar Pradesh.
