Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer won’t support Adobe Flash player by the end of 2020.

Microsoft had originally announced its plan to end support for the Flash player back in 2017 along with other tech giants and is reinforcing the same plan.

They announced this in a blog post. The main reason to do this is the diminished use of this tech and the availability of more secure options like HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly. Users will no longer receive security update reminders. The Adobe Flash Player will be disabled, and versions older than the KB4561600 will be blocked.

The removal will happen when Microsoft brings it Microsoft Edge v88. You will see an update named “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player”.

Adobe says that it would continue to provide the flash player security patches through the end of 2020.  Removing the flash player from the Windows device doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be able to use it.

Since many enterprise users will need Flash Player commercial support and licensing beyond 2020 to run internal business systems such as interactive dashboards, digital training, and intranet, their official distribution licensing partner Harman will be able to offer additional product support for Flash Player starting next year.

You will be able to use it as a third-party plug-in, just like you use so many third-party plugins on your browser. The difference is you will not receive any customer support from Microsoft as you used to receive till now.

The announcement was made by all the giants like Apple, Facebook, Mozilla, Microsoft way back in 2017. 3 years down the lane, now its time to execute their announcement.
