Indian star tennis players, Leander Paes and Ravi Bopanna marked victory in their respective matches in the first round of the French Open. Both have now entered the second round. On the other hand, Sania Mirza and her partner Yaroslava Shvedova were defeated in the first round of the Women’s Doubles Event.
Paes and his American partner Scott Lipsky had to do a lot of hard work to win over R. Albot of Romania and H. Chung of South Korea in their opening match by 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.
Earlier in the day, Bopanna and his Uruguayan partner Pablo easily won against the French duo of Mathias Bourgue and Paul-Henri Mathieu in a one-sided encounter. The ninth seeded Indo-Uruguayan pair marked a comfortable 6-1 6-1 victory against the French duo.
However, it was a really disappointing day for the fourth seeded pair of Sania and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan as they crashed out in their first round. The duo went down 6-7(5), 6-1, 2-6 to Daria Gavrilova of Australia and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia. Sania will next be seen in the mixed doubles event alongside Ivan Dodig of Croatia.
