The star batsman of Delhi Capitals Ajinkya Rahane believes that he is comfortable in changing his batting spot. The accommodated change would be for a good cause for the franchise. He also revealed that he would have been a better fit to bat at number 4 position in the 2019 World Cup.

He further expressed his emotions regarding the last year’s World Cup and added that he thought he would be a part of the World Cup by batting at No.4 but unfortunately things did not go as expected. The time is gone now and there’s no use of thinking about it now, he added. Rahane believed that he should’ve been a part of the World Cup after putting in a lot of efforts and hard work behind the nets but unfortunately he was found playing county cricket during the World Cup and it saddened him quite enough.

Rahane has great experience in batting in the middle order as he has played around 33 Games in One Day Internationals for Team India.

Ajinkya Rahane has moved from the Royals to the Capitals and is quite happy to play a role of a middle order batsmen if required. On the other hand there are plenty of openers available in the team of Delhi Capitals which include the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Jason Roy, Prithvi Shaw and Alex Carey.

Rahane further opened his thoughts on the batting position and explained that he enjoys opening the batting as he has opened throughout his career. But as of now it is completely up to the Delhi Capitals team on which role they assign to the star batsman from Rajasthan Royal. He concluded by expressing gratitude towards the team and saying that he would accept any role that is assigned to him as it is only for the betterment of the team.

Rahane has opened in 110 innings out of 132 in the IPL. He was questioned if he could pull off batting in the middle over and finish the game if required. Answering the question Rahane said that he would be quite happy as it is a new challenge and a new opportunity as a Cricketer. It is a definite yes from the batsman and looks forward on exploring new positions in the middle order.

Ajinkya Rahane’s role is still not deceived as the team has not started training yet. But it would initially require 5-6 sessions for the star batsman to shift his gears from an opening batsman to a middle order batsman.

Rahane also had a go on the current situation and how it had a impact on him. He said that it would require him a good 5-6 sessions of training to build his mindset and get going as he has been out of cricket since 5-6 months due to the pandemic.

The wickets in the UAE will play a major role as they can get slower due to the weather factor. Rahane believes that it is all about getting adjusted to the current atmosphere and avoid panicking. He further added that one good innings could get him his confidence as in t20 cricket 15-20 runs are enough to get going.

Lastly Rahane concluded by comparing both the positions in cricket as opening gives him the freedom to express because there are only two fielders outside the box whereas batting in the middle order requires a bit of grind where the field is completely spread and there are less options to score a boundary. The complete point of view of the game is changed when you change your batting position, he added.
