SL wins the three-match series against Afghanistan by 2-1.
After the IPL, Afghanistan (AFG) was all set to go on the tour of Sri Lanka (SL).
The first ODI match was played on June 2, 2023.
Afghanistan, winning the toss, was elected to field first as Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the inning for SL.
Dimuth soon lost his wicket as the middle order handled the situation.
Charith Asalanka and Dhananjay de Silva formed an important partnership between them.
They both completed their half-centuries, as the knock of 91 runs by Charith made SL achieve a total of 268 runs.
Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah’s innings for AFG helped them get close to the total.
They both even completed their half-centuries, as the knock of 98 runs by Ibrahim brought them close to victory.
The finishing knock by Hashmatullah of 38 runs made them win the match.
The second ODI was played on June 4th, as SL won the toss and elected to bat first.
Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne gave an outstanding start to their team.
After them, the middle order also played well and scored good runs.
With the innings by the top four batsmen, they made a total of 323/6.
In return, the AFG batsmen weren’t able to achieve the total as the bowlers performed extremely well.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjay de Silva took three wickets each and helped SL win the match.
The third match was played on June 7th, as AFG won the toss
and elected to bat first.
The great bowling of SL didn’t let the batsmen of AFG score many runs.
Dushmantha Chameera took four wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Lahiru Kumara took three and two wickets each.
They stopped AFG’s innings at 116 runs.
In return, the half-centuries by the opening batsmen, Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne, made them win the match.
SL won the match by nine wickets, as they also won the series 2-1.
Dushmanta Chameera was chosen as the player of the match for his bowling figures of 4/63 and also the player of the series for taking six wickets in the series.
