Elanic, one of the largest pre-owned buying-selling community in India, has announced that it has acqui-hired SecondCry, a parent-only marketplace for children’s pre-owned products.

The move is aimed at expanding product offerings to existing consumers while opening up new market opportunities. It strengthens Elanic’s position as India’s one of the largest pre-owned marketplace in fashion and other lifestyle categories.

Anjali Goyal, SecondCry’s CEO and Co-Founder, said,

Elanic and SecondCry share the vision of promoting collaborative consumption. Like Elanic, SecondCry has tried to build a community where buying and selling pre-owned goods is easy, and in fact more fun than hoarding. This move is a non-zero-sum game not only because we have a huge overlap, but also this a sweet extension of our target demographic – young women and moms! While Elanic provides a mature and interactive platform, SecondCry will live on there as their ‘Babies & Kids’ category.

Palkush Rai Chawla, Co-Founder, Elanic, said,

We’ve solved some of the toughest problems which classifieds have struggled with for almost a decade. We’ve moved transactions online and have made the experience seamless for both the buyer and seller. Adding newer categories such as ‘Babies & Kids’ is the logical next step for us.

SecondCry comes with a community of 25,000 parents and a robust catalogue of infants’ and children’s pre-owned products. As of part of this acquisition and hiring agreement, Anjali Goyal will join Elanic as Category Head.

SecondCry claims to be India’s first parent-only marketplace for reselling children’s pre-owned products. Started as a Facebook group in 2015 by co-founders Anjali Goyal and Ankur Jain, the SecondCry community grew steadily, and the couple decided to launch a full-fledged website in 2016.

Elanic, which was founded in 2015 by Abhilash Narahari, Palkush Rai Chawla and Aditi Rohan, is a social, peer-to-peer marketplace for pre-owned items in India, with a million-strong community of buyers and sellers.
