Syrian state-run SANA news agency has reported that Israel launched an aerial attack on Saturday in Syria, targeting Syrian military positioned in Hama region.

According to ANI news reports, the Syria military, however, intercepted Israeli planes and foiled the Israeli attack. The Israeli plane attack has caused destruction to some buildings, which led three fighters injured heavily.

The SANA quoted a Syrian military source, saying that around 2:30 am, Israeli warplanes had conducted an air strike from Lebanese air space.

The tensions between Syria and Israel have escalated since United States President Donald Trump announced that the county is recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel had annexed from Syria during a civil war decades before.

Syria has criticized Trump’s comments on recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights as “irresponsible”.

According to BBC news reports, a statement by the Syrian state news agency has said the country accused Trump of “blind bias” towards Israel. It said Syria was much determined to recover the region “through all available means”.

Israel has captured the Golan Heights region in 1967 from Syria and annexed it in 1981 in a move which was not recognized internationally.
