Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has on Sunday, backed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative of peace process saying that the initiative of talks by a new government towards India with utmost sincerity should not be taken as Pakistan’s weakness.

According to news reports, while addressing the passing out parade of 19th short service course and 110th midshipmen at the Naval Academy on Saturday, in Karachi, Bajwa said Pakistan was “a peace loving country and believes in peace”.

Bajwa said, “Our new government has extended a hand of peace and friendship towards India with utmost sincerity but it should not be taken as our weakness.”

Praising Khan’s government’s initiative to achieve peace between both India and Pakistan, Bajwa said peace does benefits everyone and both countries, and now it is time to fight poverty, illiteracy and disease instead of fighting against each other.

The army chief said the nature of warfare has been transformed through the modern technology and has tilted balance squarely, in favour of nations that embraces the change readily.

According to news reports, Bajwa said, “Wars bring death, destruction and misery for the people. Ultimately all issues are resolved on the table through negotiations that is why we are trying very hard to help bring a lasting peace in Afghanistan by supporting Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace plan.”

Bajwa said it is our duty to honour the sacrifices made to restore peace and order, through display of discipline, unity and faith in everything which we do. Bajwa said Pakistan believes in peace and is a peace-loving country, and believes to spread peace within and peace without.
