The entry-level SUV from BMW offers an unmatched luxurious experience to first-time customers who wish to enter the premium segment. Unlike the older one, the new range of BMW X1 features a front-wheel drive powertrain with adequate features keeping in mind the price point it restricts itself. Recently, a more feature-loaded variant called the Tech Edition has been added to the trim to keep the SUV at par with the rivals. In India, the X1 Tech Edition will now act as the top-end variant for the trim with a price tag starting at Rs.43 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Is this new variant worth a try? Well, we are here to find out.

Updates

It’s more feature-loaded when compared to the top-end S20i xLine variant. To differentiate, customers will get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heads-up display, wireless charger and a powerful HiFi surround sound system.

Sadly, other variants of the X1 features an 8.8-inch infotainment system with a rotary controller. Although, this dial has been continued even on the Tech Edition but with a larger touchscreen unit alongside. Interestingly, it runs on a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels and two exterior shades including – Alpine White and Phytonic Blue.

Other Features

Apart from the updates mentioned above, the new X1 Tech Edition will continue to feature electrically adjustable front seats, memory function, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and wireless Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. For occupants safety, BMW offers six airbags, cornering brake control (CBC), electric parking brake and dynamic stability control (DSC) among others.

Engine

Under the hood, BMW X1 Tech Edition comes with the normal 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that channels power to the front wheels. Putting the overall output in numbers, this unit can churn out a massive 192 horsepower alongside a peak torque of 280Nm with a 7-speed Steptronic gearbox as standard. For added convenience, BMW will offer launch control along with paddle shifters on the Tech Edition as well.

One important point to note is that this special edition will not be available with the diesel engine.

Alternatives
