Delhi-High-Court

Delhi Government yesterday (2nd April, 2019) stepped into Delhi High Court to challenge the order of the court, passed in favour of the tuition fee hike of Delhi private unaided schools to restore the salary of the teachers. The order was passed by a single hearing judge on 15th March, 2019.

Delhi government on 17th October, 2017 had issued an order to grant the Delhi private schools a fee hike of 15% to ensure the salary raise of school teachers upto 25%. The order was passed in compliance of the Seventh Central Pay Commission that recommended for the salary hike of teachers and other employees. The government agreed for the fee hike till the audit of their accounts. However, the government later withdrew the order after getting informed that some schools are unnecessarily raising the fee amount upto 25%.

On April 13th 2018, AAP government passed another order that no private unaided schools residing on the land that comes under Delhi government, can hike the fee unnecessarily without being granted a permission from Directorate of Education (DoE).

A plea was filed by the Action Committee Unaided Recognised Private Schools in Delhi High Court, countering the order (passed on 13th April) by AAP government. The judge proclaimed that “As the DoE has no valid justification to its point hence, the order is being issued in favour to stick on the decision passed on 17th October, 2017, for the 25% pay hike of teachers, restored from the tution fee hike of private unaided schools.” The court has also asked the DoE to have a peek eye on the private schools, to not be involved in commercialisation of school. If any school does this then strict actions will be taken against the school.

Another plea filed by Directorate of Education (DoE) will be heard today.
