"Jan Ki Awaaz' Election Manifesto Release Day

Lok Sabha elections are on the verge and both the ruling and opposition parties are making every possible effort to hold the command of ruling power. Yesterday, on April 2nd, 2019 Congress party President, Rahul Gandhi along with other Congress party members, released an ‘Election Manifesto,’ titled ‘Jan Ki Aawaaz.’ The Manifesto resides host of optimistic promises in the interest of public, amongst the major ones are- 72,000 money transfer every year to the poorest households under Nyuntam Aay Yojna (NYAY), 33% seats reserved for women in Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assembly, Introduction of Right to Homestead Act for landless rural people etc.

In the education sector, Congress-led President, Rahul Gandhi has promised to spend 6% of GDP for the welfare of education. During a public speaking in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, he stated, “We have decided to dramatically increase the amount of money we spend on education. After gaining the ruling power, we will spend 6% of GDP on education system. We will make sure all our people have access to top quality education and those, who cannot afford education, will be provided scholarship.”

According to the survey the GDP spent (in percentage) on education was as following in the forwarding years under the ruling government:

  • 2014-15 (2.8%)
  • 2015-16 (2.4%)
  • 2016-17 (2.6%)
  • 2017-18 (2.7%)

According to Rahul Gandhi, as mentioned in the Manifesto; the promise to spend 6% GDP towards education sector will be accomplished by 2023-24.
