Gujarat government seems to be intensely serious about improving the education system in the government schools of the state.

Initially the government has decided to better the condition of school teachers’ temperament being followed in a the schools. To achieve the regular duties of the teachers in the government schools across the entire Gujarat state, the government has set-up call centres will real-time technology to keep an eye on the school teachers.

According to the officials’ statement, the teachers will be kept under surveillance by the tech savies to keep an eye on them. The teachers’ on time availability will be checked via a phone call, which will ask them about their current location, task assigned, who assigned the task etc.

This technology based inspection will be applicable on all the 1.95 lakh school teachers appointed in the govt. schools of Gujarat.

This is being initiated due to the irresponsibility being followed by the teachers in absence of any official undertakings. To curb the irregularities and improve the quality of education the government in a meeting has come up with this step.

Survey

Though, this is not the very first time that the miss-happenings of the teachers has come into view. The problem is being in continuation from many years. A report from Jan, 2019 stated that 12,000 schools in Gujarat have only 1-2 teachers.

A survey conducted by Gujarat Education Department found that of 32,772 government schools, 12,000 are run by just one or two teachers.

Another report states that the government school teachers spend only 19% of their annual time in educating the students. Under the RTE act 220 days are mandated for a teacher to educate and only 42 days were being spent on teaching.

The major reasons behind the mis-happenings of the teachers could be- election duties, carrying out surveys, pulse polio campaigns and maintaining mid-day meal registers.

The instruction by the Gujarat government will commence from 10th June, 2019, which follows the new academic session.

The entire operation will be taken up by a tech-equipped team under command and control centre, which has been set-up in Gandhinagar. The centre will initially be staffed by 50 dedicated members from Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the office of the Director, Primary Education (DPE).

The centre will run under Vinod Rao, Principal Secretary, Education.
