17 schools will be shut down as reported by the State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.

17 state-run Assam schools will be shut down as not a single student has passed the matriculation exam this year. The officials reported that out of 3.5 lakh students who have appeared for HSLC exams around 65 percent have passed.

A total of 140 students studied in these 17 schools and none of them have passed the exam. The state education minister said that these schools will be shut down due to poor performance. The teachers will be transferred across Assam soon. The students will also be given opportunity to join the nearby schools.

The total count of the teachers and the students in these schools is under process. Also the clearance order will be issued soon. An official said to the press that a formal order will be out soon.

To facilitate the students, the government announced that all the admissions to the state-run schools will be of free of cost.

In addition to that, the government would be repaying each student’s mess dues of Rs1000 per month and will refund Rs 1000 for the cost of buying books. The government has took this decision as pandemic has affected many people in their livelihood.
