Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Rajasthan’s Kota, Om Birla will likely to be the NDA nominee for the Lok Sabha Speaker Post. An election for the Lok Sabha Speaker Post is slated for tomorrow, June 19.

In the recently held national polls, BJP Candidate from Kota Om Birla registered a victory by defeating Ramnarain Meena of Congress with over 2.5 lakh votes.

While Om Birla’s wife Amita Birla expressed happiness over the possible decision. Amita Birla as quoted by ANI said, ‘It is a very proud and a happy moment for us. We are very thankful to the cabinet for choosing him.’

It should be noted that BJP Senior Leader and Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi was also considered among the frontrunners for the post. She has been kept out of the Council of Ministers too.

During the 16th Lok Sabha, eight-time MP Sumitra Mahajan was the Lok Sabha Speaker. However, she opted out of the poll race and asked BJP to announce candidate from Indore Lok Sabha Seat.

The development comes a day after the Pro-tem Speaker Dr. Virendra Kumar was administrated oath by President Ram Nath Kovind and over 300 MPs took the oath during
the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha that begins on Monday.

The swearing-in ceremony of all the newly-elected MPs will be spread over two days – Monday and Tuesday. Among other MPs who took oath on Monday include Amit Shah, Rajnath SinghSmriti IraniNitin GadkariHarsimrat Kaur Badal, Rahul Gandhi, among others were administrated oath by Protem Speaker Dr. Virendra Kumar.

PM Narendra Modi was the first one who took oath on Monday.

Election to elect a new Speaker of the House will be held on June 19th. While the President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint session of both the houses  Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha –  on 20th June.

The Economic Survey will be released on the 4th of July a day before. While next day, that is on July 5th, new Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the full-fledged budget in the House.
