While speaking about Cyclone Fani and its effects on the state, CM Chandrababu Naidu came down strongly on the EC and its directives with relation to EVM tempering.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu said that he will conduct a cabinet meeting with regard to cyclone Fani and its effects. He also criticised the EC in his speech as he spoke to media persons in the state on Friday. Naidu has always mentioned his opinions about the tampering of EVMs in the state. He had asked the Election Commission to verify 50% EVMs in the state and also to make sure VVPAT is available in all booths in the general elections so that the voter will be sure of the candidate he had voted for.

“What has the EC got to do with the day-to-day administration of the State? Ours is an elected government. I will oversee the administration and adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by desisting from taking any policy decisions. The officials who were not associated with the election duties, should attend meetings,’’ said Chandrababu Naidu.

“While chief secretaries in other States continue to report to CMs on regular administrative matters, here the EC-appointed CS acts differently. Is he unaware of his responsibility? Should I beg him to brief me on administrative issues? I have worked with several chief secretaries in my 40-year political career. It would be better for all officials to discharge their respective responsibilities. I will not tolerate irresponsibility,’’ he said.
