India played against Ireland on June 28th, 2022, at The Village.
First Innings
IND won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers came out to bat with a mindset to set up a big score against the Irish team. The opening pair started with great shots, but Ireland gave a quick breakthrough as Ishan Kishan, while trying to clear the boundary, got caught out near the boundary.
Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda were seen in tremendous form as Deepak was mainly dealing in boundaries as soon as both of them completed their half-centuries and even a partnership of a hundred runs.
As their partnership was heading towards a new record, Deepak achieved his century and became the fourth batsman for India to score a century in the T-20 format.
Then the game headed forward as both of them broke the old record of the highest partnership by any two Indian batsmen in international cricket. They made a new record of 176 runs, breaking the old record of 165 runs by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul against Sri Lanka at Indore.
The partnership made IND achieve a total of 225 runs for the loss of seven wickets. It felt like an unbreakable score for the Irish team.
Second Innings
The second innings started with great cricketing shots. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie made the total easier to chase as Andrew was dealing in sixes. He smashed seven sixes in his innings of 60 runs, as both of them made more than 70 runs in the powerplay itself.
Ravi Bishnoi clean bowled Paul, giving Ireland their first breakthrough and a chance to reclaim the game after Gareth was run-out by Hardik.
Despite taking four wickets, IND wasn’t sure about their win as the batsman of Ireland were playing good knocks as every run was important.
A wicket by Bhuneshwar Kumar in the 19th over of Harry Tector saved the game. In the end, IND won by four runs.
Award Ceremony
At the ceremony, Deepak Hooda was chosen as the Player of the Match for his knock of 104 runs as well as the Player of the Series as IND won the series by 2-0.
