South Korean unification ministry has said on Monday that North Korea has sent its official back to the inter-Korean liaison office situated in North Korea’s border city of Kaesong, reversing its decision two days after it withdrew the officials.

According to Reuters news reports, early Monday morning, a group of four-to-five North officials showed up at the liaison office stating that they have come to work “as usual”, the ministry said, according to a statement.

The ministry added that the presence of North Korean head of the office was not yet confirmed but the two sides have held a consultation and agreed to “continue to operate the office as usual”.

North Korea has on Friday withdrawn itself from the inter-Korean liaison office, which was established amidst warming of bilateral ties in order to facilitate dialogues with South Korea.

Seoul said the country was contacted on Friday and informed the North Korean officials would soon be leaving today.

South has expressed regret over North Korea’s decision of staff withdrawal from the liaison office and urged the North staffs to come back as soon as possible.

North Korea’ staff pullout follows the Hanoi summit failure between the United States president, Donald Trump, and his North counterpart Kim Jong-Un, held last month in Vietnam.
