With the V50 ThinQ, LG is focusing on 5G support on its device. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and has a Snapdragon X50 modem for 5G support.

The LG V50 ThinQ looks similar to LG’s last year’s smartphone, the G7 Plus ThinQ. The device features a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullView display and features the typical notch. The notch on the V50 ThinQ accommodates two front-facing cameras with the primary being an 8-megapixel sensor and the secondary being a 5-megapixel sensor, similar to its predecessor, the LG V40 ThinQ.

On the back, the device features a triple-camera setup compromising of a 12-megapixel standard wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor, which again is pretty much in line with its predecessor.

Notably, LG has not included an in-display fingerprint scanner with the device and has gone with the traditional rear-mounted fingerprint scanner coupled with a regular face unlock feature available using the front camera.

The LG V50 ThinQ 5G is fueled by a 4000mAh battery.

At the event, LG also released its Dual Screen Display accessory. The said accessory is basically a case which adds a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display to the V50 ThinQ 5G connecting via the special pogo pins placed on the back of the smartphone.

LG Dual Screen Accessory

The dual-screen accessory turns the LG V50 ThinQ into a foldable smartphone that, according to LG, will help users multitask better. Besides the basic use of the Dual Screen accessory like watching a movie on one screen and browsing the web on the second screen, LG also lets users utilize the second screen as a virtual controller while gaming, appealing to mobile gaming enthusiast.

The highlight of the G8 devices from LG is the ToF sensor which adds a new Hand ID feature to the phone. Hand ID is said to read the thickness of a user’s palm and scans the veins to unlock the phone. The same 3D camera can be used for more secure face Unlock.
