Windows 7 considered as one of the most successful OS is finally into its last year of support from Microsoft. According to the latest Wndows 7 update KB4493132 Microsoft will end providing any further support and security updates to Windows 7 SP1 as of January 14, 2020. The notifications are scheduled to be start appearing from 18th April and the reminders were displayed this week in the patch KB4493132. In the KB article Microsoft explains ,”After 10 years of servicing, January 14, 2020, is the last day Microsoft will offer security updates for computers running Windows 7 SP1. This update enables reminders about Windows 7 end of support.”

Even after January, 2020 if users don’t update their OS , they will be more prone to security risks. Windows will operate but the users won’t be receiving any further security and feature updates. Internet Explorer is a component of Windows 7. Just like Windows 7, Internet Explorer will also meet its end of support andwill be discounted on the same day.

The optional update will be downloaded automatically to Windows 7 users who have automatic updates enabled.

Windows 10 is still edging closer to Microsoft’s goal of having it installed on 1 billion devices. The Windows 7 upgrade cycle will help push Windows 10 further, and it recently passed Windows 7 in market share earlier this year. Windows 10 is now running on more than 800 million devices.

Microsoft is also launching an information site about the upgrade options at www.microsoft.com/windows7, but notably, this does not include a free upgrade.
